Restocking Your Archery Supply

If there is one thing that an archer knows, it is that the even though your skill may be superb you are only as good as your supplies. That is why it is important to keep your archery supply maintained at all time. Not everything needs constant maintenance but there are a few of them that need constant maintenance.

No matter what your skill level is, bowstring should always be replaced once a year. Bowstring is the most important archery supply that you will purchase. Modern bowstring may not show signs of wear, but keep in mind that even though your bow may have been sitting up for about a year it is still undergoing constant stress from the bow being strung. This is why you should replace it once a year. A worn bowstring is very dangerous and can potentially ruin your expensive bow.

Always replace your training arrows and tips. It will do you absolutely no good to practice with arrows that aren't completely straight or tips that have been damaged due to over use. If you are practicing with worn arrows, eventually you begin to think that you are getting better, when in fact you are just getting better at working with defunct equipment and it will really show once you try to shoot new arrows. Always check your arrows and tips for extreme wear. If they look like they need to be replaced, chances are they do. Even if the arrow doesn't "feel" right, or you have to over adjust your shot too many times, it may not be your fault but worn arrows.

New targets are fairly cheap and can really help improve your game, as long as they aren't completely full of holes. Keep your targets looking fresh. If you can hardly see where the bullseye is, then its time to throw out that old target and get a fresh one. For a little more money you can purchase wildlife targets from your local archery supply store. These targets give you the advantage of simply replacing the target area with colored Styrofoam and last a lot longer than most targets.

There are many other items that are essential to your archery supply but keep these in mind as being the most important. Old bowstring can cause serious pain when it snaps, not to mention potentially ruining a perfectly good bow.
